Bringing Testimonials to Life.  They should be part of every marketing campaign.

Testimonials are a huge factor when it comes to making a buying decision.  If you don’t use the praise your customers have for your business, you are missing a huge opportunity.  You should use current customers help you sell to prospects.

We are all influenced by the opinions of others.  Especially people who offer specific reasons. Call it social proof.

The video accompanying this article is a testimonial about me by Mark Fenner, president of Rise Performance Group.  It’s persuasive because it:

  • Is heart-felt.
  • Comes from a highly respected, trusted speaker.
  • Offers specifics that might appeal to my prospects.
  • Begins in an engaging way with the word “confession.”
  • Comes from a presentation to a large audience.  Not just a one-on-one interview.

Mark is a remarkably talented and charismatic speaker.  But even if you clients aren’t as gifted, take advantage of opportunities to capture what they have to say about you.

This example is a variation of the typical “talking head” video.  I wanted the information to stand out, so I used an image of Mark with his title.  It’s a different approach, but shows what you can do if you can only capture a testimonial off the phone, for example.   Not everyone is comfortable on camera, so this can serve as a backup approach.

This video from The Blessed Bean in Australia not only includes testimonials from a variety of happy customers, but also provides a glimpse into the shop itself.   Watch it.  You’ll experience what it’s like to be there.

Bringing Testimonials to Life:  Takeaways

  • Contact clients who you consider raving fans.
  • If not “raving” just customers who value you.
  • Ask them on camera or just your phone what the like the most about your service.
  • Avoid rehearsing them, so it doesn’t come across like a script.
