Bringing a leadership culture to life should be a prime goal of your organization.  If it’s not clear, how will you separate yourself from your competition?

1. Put values front and center.

CEOs talk a lot about company values, but they mean little unless employees deliver them every day.  Make your values obvious.

2. Hire based on values.

Develop a list of questions designed to assess a candidate’s character and potential fit.  Ask questions related to a candidate’s ability to deliver on your brand’s promise.  Your company’s values should be clear.

3. Make decisions based on values.

Show employees how it’s done.  Use company character to guide business decisions.  Empower employees to do the same.

4. Reward and promote values.

Promote organizational values by rewarding behaviors that demonstrate them. Publicly reward employees for exhibiting behaviors that are in line with the company’s character. Not only does this make the individual feel good, it also pushes the rest of the company to follow suit.

Use your website and social media featuring employees who demonstrate our values on our company website.

5.  Put key players front and center.

Canadian-born Guy Laliberté began his circus career busking on the streets: playing accordion, walking on stilts, and eating fire. He tempted fate by bringing a successful troupe from Quebec to the Los Angeles Arts Festival in 1987, with no return fare. The bet paid off, and the circus group was eventually brought to Las Vegas, where they became the world-famous Cirque du Soleil we know today.  If you were marketing his company, his story would be valuable to share.  He personifies the brand.

Today, Laliberté is the CEO of Cirque, a professional poker player and space tourist, with an estimated net worth of $1.98 billion.
